About Solarrechnen

Radif Partners

Publisher of German solar calculators: yield by postcode, self-consumption, feed-in tariff

Solarrechnen is published by Radif Partners. It started from a frustration anyone shopping for balcony solar in Germany will recognise: almost every yield calculator online belongs to a retailer, an installer or a comparison portal. Some assume a self-consumption share that never shows up on the electricity bill, some only reveal the result after a quote request, and nearly all ask for a region rather than a place.

What this site does differently

It uses the European Commission's PVGIS radiation data for 838 grid points and every postcode, 74 metered households instead of a flat percentage, and the feed-in rates for exactly the period in which a system is commissioned. The result is there before you type anything and changes with every input.

How it is checked

Automated tests run before every release: feed-in rates for all periods against the Federal Network Agency table, location values against direct PVGIS queries, the energy balance of every calculation. How each figure is produced is explained under How we calculate.

What we are not

Not a retailer, installer, energy supplier, grid operator or public authority. We sell no panels, pass on no quote requests and take no money for recommendations. For advice on site, the energy advice service of the consumer centres (Verbraucherzentrale) and your grid operator are the right contacts.

Funding and your data

The calculators are free and need no account. Postcode, consumption and prices stay in your browser. Should the site ever show advertising, it will never sit above a calculator.

Why in English

Every page exists in German and English. The English version is written for people living in Germany who are still learning the German terms: Marktstammdatenregister, Einspeisevergütung and Steckersolargerät are explained, amounts stay in euros.
